The round-up: Where to find the Gold Coast’s best eco-friendly shops

We only have one planet, there are plenty of choices that we can make to treat the Earth a little bit more kindly. Living on the Gold Coast, we are lucky to have some inspiring options on offer created by some pretty amazing people! Whether you're after eco-friendly products for your home or body, children or a gift, we've done the hard work for you and rounded up some of the best sustainable stores that the coast has to offer.

Heartfill, Burleigh Heads
This peach-hued pad is a delightful discovery in Burleigh’s backstreets, covered in vines and holding a whole lot of hand-made treasure. Heartfill is a one-stop shop for everything from flowers to homewares, clothing, art, craft and vintage pieces, all from local designers and artists. The concept aims to change the way people make choices about consumption and in doing so, reduce landfill. The dreamy space is effectively a market-style shopping experience, so if you love supporting local businesses at weekend markets but don’t often get to go along, then this is for you. Heartfill also doubles as a workshop space, encouraging people of all ages to work with their hands and hearts, through activities like painting, clay modelling, wreath making, weaving and journaling.

Perfect Potion, Broadbeach
If you’re fond of a little pampering or just enjoy a top-notch body wash, then friends, we have just the place for you. Perfect Potion’s Pacific Fair location is an enclave of eco-friendly goodness, that makes you look great and smell dang fine while you’re at it. With a solar-powered warehouse, a focus on Australian-sourced ingredients, a shift towards paper and glass packaging and even incorporating non-toxic receipt rolls, these guys are legit. An array of botanically based products is on offer, but our pick is the Green Goddess fragrance – no matter who you are, you’ll probably never go back to the usual chemical-laden spritzes.

The Good Lane, Burleigh Heads
Sticking to the ethos of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’, The Good Lane’s range is a one-stop-shop for everything eco. Stocking locally made items from small businesses and growers, including plants, clothes, beauty products and home essentials, plus kitchen goods like coconut bowls, bamboo straws, eco dish brushes and more. If you’re in need of a gift, we recommend stopping by as there’s plenty of cute options on offer, including handmade ceramic incense holders, petal-infused bath bombs and even cork yoga and fitness products. With lush greenery and earthy colours sitting pretty in The Good Lane’s airy warehouse-style space, The Good Lane isn’t just a zero-waste shop – there’s also regular workshops and events run from the space, such as sound healing and art classes. As if it could get any better, there’s also a super-cute resident pup, Chase!

Consciously Clean, Currumbin
Located in Currumbin’s industrial hub, Consciously Clean is an eco-friendly retailer that stocks an array of options for your home that are friendly to the healthy of your family and the planet. With a range of cleaning products available for you to refill in BYO or reusable bottles and containers, eschew the chemically scented options and go for something that will leave your space smelling homely and inviting. Plus, a bunch of great household and personal care products are available too – think a wall of botanically scented natural soaps, eco travel bowls and cups, and even recycled and plantable gift cards. After being open for just one year, the shoppers at Consciously Clean Currumbin have saved over ten thousand plastic containers! Now that’s shopping you can feel good about.

The Damn Good Store, Burleigh Heads
The Damn Good Store’s quaint retail space is here to help you level up your gifting game, doing a little good in the process by encouraging small changes that have a big impact. The best part (besides feeling chuffed about shopping small) is that there’s something for everyone on your list, so it’s essentially a one-stop shop! Those who fancy a tipple will enjoy a custom gift box featuring tins from Lost Palms, spirits from Brookie’s or punchy pet-nats created by Brisbane’s City Winery using grapes from across Australia’s key growing regions. Parents-to-be will adore the Expecting Mama Gift Box, while gents who sport an excellent ‘stache will be tickled pink with The Beard Styling Pack from Stag Supply. Art-lovers are also spoilt for choice with a beautiful selection of prints to pretty up your walls. Every print that is sold at the store has a direct impact on a community of local artists – how good is that? Damn good.

The Curated Space and The Little Store, Currumbin Eco Village
Whether you’re looking for a special piece for the home or for the kidlets in your life, the environmentally friendly options at the Currumbin Eco Village have you covered. The Curated Space offers up restored furniture and handmade gifts, such as hand-turned incense holders made from timber offcuts to jewellery created by local artists. Meanwhile, The Little Store stocks sustainably made goods for the body and home plus an array of children’s toys, books and resources that are as cute as they are eco-friendly. Think flower presses, beautiful kids yoga mats, wooden toys using non toxic varnishes and certified organic cotton swaddles.

Biome, Southport
If you’re keen to walk a little lighter and believe that every purchase you make is a vote for the kind of world you want to live in, get acquainted with Biome at the Brickworks in Southport. The extensive eco range is carefully selected to comply with the brand’s super strict guidelines and stocks everything from zero-waste lunch boxes to sustainable clothing and accessories from slow-fashion labels. The store also boasts a Naked Beauty Bar for all of your lotions and potions as well as a functional workshop space that will host a range of events including natural beauty workshops, sustainability talks and sewing classes. The store itself utilises sustainable and natural materials including Australian timbers, cork cladding and light shades made from upcycled cupboards and glass bottles.
