Tasty tacos and punchy poppers – food truck SoCal Tacos expands with its first Gold Coast venue

After roaming the streets of the city for the past 18 months slinging its flavour-packed Southern Californian tacos to the masses, popular Gold Coast food truck SoCal Tacos has opened its first bricks-and-mortar venue. Those guilty of stalking the SoCal taco truck (in a good way) can now rest easy knowing that this dispensary of delicious Mexican street food now has a permanent home in Surfers Paradise.

Tacos have long been the ultimate street food and while there are plenty of places slinging them around nowadays, SoCal Tacos is more about crafting high-quality versions of the hand-held delights, utilising all-local ingredients and trawler-fresh seafood, which arrives fresh each morning. Its flagship Surfers Paradise digs features a core menu of tasty tacos, loaded nachos, burrito bowls and street-style sides, while a side menu of specials rotates a few times per week, depending on what seasonal produce and local seafood is at its prime.

You’ll find fillings like chipotle pulled pork, smoked chicken and tempura barramundi available on the regular, though keep your eye out for in-season specials like the grilled gold-band snapper taco with coconut and lemon myrtle, and tempura-lobster taco with ginger and lemon pepper. The generously sized burrito bowls come served in a deep-fried tortilla and are brimming with rice, cheese, pico de gallo and chipotle mayonnaise, or for a flavour-packed munch, go for the giant tempura-battered Sunshine Coast jalapeno poppers, which are stuffed with five cheeses and coated in crushed blue and white corn chips before being flash-fried to perfection. Throw a plate of super-tender seasoned chicken ribs with SoCal hot sauce on the side … and a cob of corn lathered in chilli, garlic butter and cheese for good measure.

You can find SoCal Tacos’ opening hours, location and contact details over in our Stumble Guide.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
