If you mention banh mi or pho on the Gold Coast, you can pretty much guarantee that Miami Hot Bread’s name will pop up. The hole-in-the-wall along the Gold Coast Highway has undoubtedly reached cult status among banh mi lovers near and far who flock there for a fix of crispy crackling-topped banh mi, fragrant pho, rice paper rolls and salad rolls, to name a few.
With the traffic situation the way it is, the venue’s owners Quang and Thi decided to put the feelers out for a spot with ample parking. A friend suggested Waterways Mermaid Waters and as soon as they saw the space, they immediately saw potential. Not only was the parking box ticked, they also loved that it was close to a school, aquatic centre, Pizzey Park and a footy club.
Mermaid Hot Bread officially opened its doors on Monday (May 13) by dishing out 100 free banh mi. The menu is mostly the same as its Miami location, with a couple of tweaks including the addition of daikon radishes to the banh mi to dial up the flavour even more.
When asked what makes their banh mi so popular, Quang said it was a combination of the super soft and delicious meat with the fresh and crunchy bread. “The balance makes the banh mi rolls amazing. Each bite offers the perfect ratio of meat to salad, enhanced by the nuances of our special soy sauce and creamy, fresh mayo, elevating every taste bud to new heights.”
Rounding out the menu is a drool-inducing selection of sweets, slices and pastries.
Oh, and for those wondering, Miami Hot Bread isn’t closing! The original outpost will continue to operate in its current form.
