The Good Food Guide Awards 2020 have delivered a handy hit-list of all of the spots around Australia that you should be eating at next year. The Vittoria Coffee Restaurant of the Year award was bestowed upon celebrated Victorian eatery Brae, while Queensland scored a victory when New Restaurant of the Year honours went to The Valley’s small but mighty Joy Restaurant. The Santa Vittoria Regional Restaurant of the Year was given to Pottsville newbie Pipit, Bar Margaux in Melbourne was named Bar of the Year, and Lennox Hastie from Firedoor walked away with the Citi Chef of the Year award. Anna Ugarte-Carral of Momofuku Seiobo in Sydney earned the Josephine Pignolet Young Chef of the Year award and Forbes Appleby repped Tasmania’s Franklin as Sommelier of the Year. Top drops abound at Sydney’s Yellow, earning it Wine List of the Year.
The complete list of hatted restaurants going into 2020 spotlight Australia’s best dining experiences, with only six venues in the whole country nabbing the full three hats. These names include New South Wales’ Quay and Sixpenny, Orana from South Australia, plus Victoria’s Attica, Brae and Minamishima making up the list. Four Queensland restaurants were lucky enough to nab two hats – Joy Restaurant, OTTO Ristorante, Stokehouse Q and Noosa’s Wasabi – while northern New South Wales also got a look-in with Fleet. In the one-hat category, Gold Coast restaurants Labart, Rick Shores and The Fish House all got a well-deserved nod, as did Northern New South Wales gems Paper Daisy and Pipit. Brisbane’s one-hatted venues are 1889 Enoteca, Arc Dining, Blackbird Bar and Grill, Donna Chang, e’cco bistro, Gauge, Gerard’s Bistro, Golden Pig, GOMA Restaurant, Greca, Hellenika, Hôntô, Little Valley, Montrachet, Restaurant Dan Arnold and The Wolfe. Rounding out the Queensland contingent of one-hat winners was Homage, The Long Apron, Nu Nu, Rickys, Spirit House, Sum Yung Guys and The Tamarind.
