The worlds of ikebana, gastronomy and mixology will come together in Yamagen’s revitalised Secret Garden, which is welcoming visitors once again from Saturday November 25 until the end of summer. Yamagen’s poolside terrace will transform into a lush retreat featuring a canopy of cherry blossoms and Japanese-inspired decor. Guests of the Secret Garden will be able to nibble on snacks from Yamagen’s Secret Garden izakaya menu and tantalise their taste buds with a range of cocktails made with Roku gin. Tipples like the Senbonzakura combines Roku gin, red shiso, cherry blossom, while Hirohito’s Secret Garden muddles Roku gin, lavender, lemon, sage and the Ume no Hana is a tropic mix of Roku gin, hibiscus, Umeshu, lemon.
To coincide with the launch of Yamagen’s Secret Garden on Saturday 25 November, Ashby Flowers’ head florist will lead a 90-minute masterclass in the rich tradition of ikebana, the art of Japanese arrangements. Guests will create their own floral compositions, through intricate combinations of blooms, branches, leaves and stems. Event-goers will also get to indulge in a selection of dishes from Yamagen’s Secret Garden menu (think wagyu gyoza with miso mustard, popcorn prawns with spicy yuzu dressing and chicken karaage), while they wet their whistles with Roku gin spritz cocktails.
To book for the Ikebana Floral Masterclass, head to the QT website. Tickets are $125 per person. Walk-ins for Yamagen’s Secret Garden are available from Tuesday November 28 from Tuesday to Saturday from 4:00 pm.
