Have a scary-good time at these Halloween events across Brisbane and the Gold Coast

Pumpkin-spiced drinks have made a comeback, ghoulish costumes are flying off the store shelves and you can even spot a decoration or two in suburban streets. We've either entered a John Carpenter movie or ... it's Halloween! Our favourite spooky time of the year makes October a little more festive yet frightening. If you're keen to get your freak on, then you should shimmy your spooky derrière to these Halloween events ahead of October 31.

Fearphobia Scream Park at Westfield Helensvale
If you’re a fan of ghouls, scary movies, terrifying characters and dark walks through spooky towns, then it seems we are approaching your favourite time of year. With Halloween on the horizon, the frightening folk at Fearaphobia Scream Park are preparing to scare your socks off with 12 nights of scream-inducing action. Based on the USA’s hugely-popular scare attractions, Fearaphobia sees more than 150 actors bring five scary attractions to life over 12 terror-ific fright nights. Attractions include Immortal, Asylum, Darkness, Slaughterhouse 13 and new maze Beserk. Your ticket will allow you to meet and greet the not-so-friendly ghosts and ghouls as you pass between the attractions in a truly atmospheric and hair-raising setting. As well as the five haunted attractions, the park will be full of other Halloween entertainment to whet your appetite and get you into the spirit of things. Tickets are available to purchase via the Fearphobia website, and attendees are encouraged to dress up in the running for the ‘best worst dressed individual’ each night.

Spooky Putt Putt at Victoria Park
The creatures of the Putt Putt course are back from the dead for Spooky Putt Putt! Be sure to proceed with caution as you head onto their fairways filled with spooks galore. Tee off your spook-tacular adventure by puttin’ through Broken Bones Boulevard where you might just come across some bone-chilling surprises! Then, brave the toxic waste barrels as you mingle with the friendly neighbourhood zombies. It’s a graveyard smash. Beware! As you stroll down Carn-Evil, you might hear the menacing sounds of cackling clowns. As you swing through our ghoulishly crafted holes, you’ll encounter more tricks and treats than you can shake a broomstick at. Watch out for the scary squash, creepy crawlers, wicked witches, and other boo-tiful surprises along the way. All that swinging will surely make you thirsty – luckily the course is licensed, so you can order spirited sips like boo-zee slushies (spiked with Altos tequila) to be delivered while you and your gaggle of ghouls putt your way through this creepy course. Online bookings for this frightfully good time are essential. Nab your tickets at the Victoria Park website.

Halloween House of Horror at Dendy Cinemas
Calling all creatures of the night – the most horrifically fun hotspot this All Hallows’ Eve is the haunted house of Dendy Cinemas. For one night only this Halloween, Dendy (with locations at Portside, Coorparoo and Southport) is hosting a horror movie total theatre takeover. There are a bunch of spooktacular horror films, from cult classics to modern must-sees, taking over every theatre in the building all at once. Rush the candy bar and settle in for a screening of horror favourites like HalloweenCure, The ExorcistHouse (Hausu) and The Night of the Living Dead. Plus, horror-movie ticket holders wearing a Halloween costume will receive a free medium popcorn! Book your tickets at the Dendy Cinemas website.

Not On Your Rider Halloween Special at The Triffid
With Halloween creeping up just around the corner, we must stop, get spooky, or in the case of Not On Your Rider’s Halloween Special, get kooky! On Thursday October 26, trivia fans will descend on The Triffid in Brisbane with a call out to come dressed as a song title. Join Quiz Master Aimon Clark, team leaders Patience Hodgson (The Grates), Jeremy Neale (Velociraptor), and a rotating panel of guests from across the entertainment industry. There will be the usual noggin’-scratching trivia rounds, with a ‘moderately spooky’ twist. There are limited tickets to this spine-chilling event, so we suggest popping over to Moshtix quick-sticks to grab yours.

Happy Halloween at Dreamworld
With kid-friendly entertainment, Dreamworld’s after-dark event Happy Halloween is the perfect way to celebrate the spooky season. There’s multiple Happy Halloween nights happening across October (there are still tickets available for October 28, but you better be quick!), which are jam-packed with family-friendly activities like frightfully fun food, fun mazes, a mystery mansion, rides at night, trick-or-treating and more. We hope you have a sweet tooth as there will be an unimaginable amount of candy at every corner of the park, so remember to bring a container! Grab your ticket on the Dreamworld website and start planning your boo-tiful Halloween costume.

YOT Club in Brisbane
If all of that feels a little too wholesome for your liking and you’re looking for some fun on All Hallows’ Eve, don your scariest attire and get ready to sail the Brisbane River on YOT Club’s Halloween cruise. On Friday October 27, dance to spooky beats, get snapped at the scary photo booth and devour deliciously spooky cocktails. With prizes to be won for best dressed (you’ll only be allowed on the boat in full costume), you’ll want to get your freak on for a night you’ll be sure to remember. Get your tickets at the YOT Club website.

The Haunted Passage Entrapment at Cavill Lane in Surfers Paradise
This October, Cavill Lane is dying to present The Haunted Passage Entrapment, an immersive Halloween style party with roving performers, pop-up bar, themed stalls, a live DJ, atmospheric FX and a haunted maze. It’s all happening over the Halloween weekend (October 27–29) and on October 31 from 6:00–9:00 pm. The Haunted Passage Entrapment is designed to thrill, entertain and of course, scare you – so don’t say we didn’t warn you! This spooky event is not for the faint of heart, conditions of entry apply.
