If you’ve been on the coast a while, it’s fairly likely you’ll remember the iconic monorail that used to cruise around Broadbeach. Cross the bridge where it once lived and keep your peepers peeled for a red palm tree, for this is where you’ll find the hidden entrance to Veladora. If you do manage to find your way (go you!), you’ll be greeted with a candle-lit speakeasy that can hold a maximum of 30 guests at a time.
Intended to shake-up the coast’s cocktail scene, the selection of swill at Veladora can be spied here but if you hadn’t already deducted from the name, tequila forms a pretty significant part of the offering alongside a scattering of Mexican beers and wines by the glass or bottle. The venues signature Margarita is an excellent place to start while you peruse the curious list of bar snacks, which includes black guacamole with green ants and mealworm-seasoned salsa, squid ink-infused popcorn, peanut-and-cricket trail mix and pork rillette with cricket XO and cassava chips. Hot tip, if you’re not fond of insects you can order yours sans crickets! Whether it’s date night with a difference or a cheeky tipple with pals – you’re in for a real treat (if you can find it, that is).
Veladora is now open so if you’re ready to start your search, skip over to our Stumble Guide for some handy hints including opening times.
