Miami Marketta swings open the doors to its new botanical hub, The Gin Parlour & Infusion Bar

While gin has long been shaken, stirred and poured behind bars (thanks mainly to martinis and negronis), the juniper-heavy spirit now well and truly stands on its own two feet as the tipple of choice for many discerning swillers. This Thursday September 20, the coast's newest dedicated gin bar – The Gin Parlour & Infusion Bar at Miami Marketta – will officially open to the public, bringing with it more than 90 small-batch gins for your sipping pleasure.

Nestled at the far end (Avalon Parade entrance) of the street-food laneway, The Gin Parlour has been a labour of love for Miami Marketta’s Emma Milikins and the talented team, who set out to inject a bit of that eclectic Miami Marketta style into the city’s bar scene. The moody warehouse space is brought to life by an eye-catching 10-metre bar, highlighted by a backlit wall-to-wall display that elegantly presents each of the 90-plus gin bottles in its own individual alcove. The team has utilised giant recycled sleepers, unique vintage furniture, chesterfield lounges, rustic chandeliers  and hanging ceiling murals to create a truly unique and head-turning sipping space.

Speaking of sips, a visit to The Gin Parlour is best kicked off with one of the gin tasting boards, which are served with Fever Tree tonics and paired condiments like fresh-cut citrus fruits, rosemary and star anise. You’ll certainly need more than a few visits to work your way through this extensive collection of gin, which showcases batches from boutique Australian distilleries (green ant-infused gin, anyone?) as well as gins sourced from international distilleries in London, Sweden, Chicago, Germany and northern Italy. From there you can move into cocktail territory, where you’ll find classics from martinis to negronis and a limoncello-heavy Tom Collins. Don’t do gin? There’s also a series of house-infused spirits on offer, including a jalapeno-infused tequila and a pavlova vodka infused with strawberry and vanilla. The Gin Parlour will open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with its Thursday-night trade to feature live jazz music, full table service and food menus from street-food stalls The Italian Job and Double T Mexican.
