Don a bib and get your hands dirty at Broadbeach’s new seafood joint, Kickin’Inn

There's something deeply satisfying about forgoing traditional dining etiquette, throwing on a bib and some gloves and tucking in to a seafood spread. It's liberating and makes for an utterly memorable dining experience. If this sounds like your idea of a fun time, pull up a seat at Kickin'Inn in Broadbeach. Trust us when we say, this is not your regular seafood joint ...

Subscribing to the philosophy that seafood was not meant for knives and forks, Broadbeach’s new dining destination Kickin’Inn is doing things a little differently. Here, oceanic delights are served in the bag, or dumped straight on to the table in front of you. While it might feel foreign at first, it’s refreshing and instantly disarming as you lean in to crack, peel, slurp and generally share the spread. The innovative dining concept was imagined by best mates Ravi Singh and Sami Karras back in 2018, with a vision to create a memorable seafood-centric dining experience for everyone. The business partners have been vocal in their lofty goal to open 100 restaurants around Australia – they’ve already opened numerous venues in New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, with plans to branch out to Tasmania later this year. After repeated requests from its dedicated fan base, Kickin’Inn has finally gifted us a Gold Coast location. Broadbeach marks the 21st Kickin’Inn to the ranks, joining sibling spots in Spring Hill and Logan Central Plaza.

If you’ve not yet had the pleasure of Kickin’Inn, you’re in for a treat. Rather than run with tradition, Kickin’Inn is all about fun. Here, patrons are not only allowed, but encouraged, to play with their food and eat with their hands. Upon arrival you’ll be given a bib and gloves so you can get as messy as you want. As for the menu, it works like this – choose your favourite type of seafood from the mouth-watering selection, which includes prawns, bay bugs, mussels, baby octopus, blue swimmer crabs, pipis, crawfish and lobster, to name just a few. Then you choose the sauce – there’s garlic butter and lemon pepper for those who like a more mellow flavour profile, but if you’re up for some spice, opt for the ‘kajun’, which is based on Louisiana-style Cajun seafood (Ravi and Sami’s version took three years to perfect). Then, patrons are asked to choose their ideal heat level, which ranges from original right through to inferno, 000- and 000+, but be warned, it’s not for the faint-hearted. The venue’s specialty is the Kickin’ Mixed Bag®, a seafood boil bag that feeds up to four people. Feelin’ fancy? The Kickin’ Shrimp Martini is served in a fun novelty-sized martini glass that towers over the table. So there you have it. If you’re up for a fun, seafood-filled feast, take a seat at Kickin’Inn.
