After making a mark on Brisbane’s casual-dining scene with their Australian-first gnoccheria concept in Paddington and more recently with a second venue in South Bank, Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers’ owners Ben Cleary-Corradini and Theodor Roduner set their sights on bringing their mouth-watering gnocchi dispensary to the Gold Coast. The passionate duo snapped up a space within Southport’s brand-new Smith Collective precinct – a $550-million retail and residential hub in the heart of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, which is home to Griffith University and the Gold Coast University Hospital. While Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers has popped across the Gold Coast on occasion, including a recent takeaway stand at Robina Town Centre, the 60-seat Southport location (which officially opened this week), marks its first bricks-and-mortar foray into the city – and here’s hoping there’s more to come.
For the uninitiated, Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers specialises in authentic handmade Italian gnocchi – and it has become a cult favourite in Brisbane for good reason. The menu is kept intentionally simple with a choice of six gnocchi variations, plus sides and snacks like marinated olives, Italian salad, truffle-salted potato chips, and golden salt-and-pepper calamari. The gnocchi list features traditional beef bolognese, wild-mushroom and truffle, creamy basil pesto, spicy cherry tomato and black olive, pork-and-fennel sausage, and for seafood lovers – a creamy lobster and barramundi gnocchi. The new Southport gnoccheria is equipped with an all-Italian wine list – plus, a different Queensland winemaker will also be featured, rotating monthly for a local option. There’s also spritzes by SOFI on tap, bottled Italian beers and a range of digestifs. Just be sure to leave room for the Sicilian ricotta cannoli, a pot of tiramisu or a slice of Nonna’s lemon cake.
