Crew cafe brings specialty brews, eye-popping eats and Melbourne vibes to Burleigh

With dishes like cheddar-infused cornbread waffles topped with fried chicken and dollops of sriracha-laced honey butter on its menu, you can safely assume that Crew – Burleigh's newest breakfast, brunch and lunch hang – is far from your run-of-the-mill cafe. Let us introduce you to the new kid on the block ....

Located on Connor Street (next door to Burleigh Tropicana), Crew is the latest project from a seasoned hospitality team that’s behind some of Melbourne’s most popular cafes – Bentwood in Fitzroy, MOB in Camberwell, Clubhouse and Winter in Malvern, Stanley in Mount Waverly, as well as micro-roastery Inglewood Coffee. While Burleigh’s night scene has been peppered with new restaurant and bar additions of late, Crew’s arrival is set to shake up the days with specialty coffee, eye-catching eats and fun vibes (oh, and really good music).

Crew has an all-day menu that covers all dietaries and hunger levels, with a balance of healthy plates (think breakfast bowls, nourishing salads, pitaya chia pudding and maqui-berry granola) and moreish dishes like braised Cuban-style pulled-pork eggs benny with cheddar waffles and chipotle mayonnaise. If you like dessert for breakfast, there’s the Hong Kong bubble waffles filled with a hefty glob of Nutella and topped with vanilla mascarpone, banana brulee, pistachios and raspberry puree, or the rose-blossom hotcakes with raspberry curd, strawberries and passionfruit, dark-chocolate meringue, mascarpone and the option to add bacon (absolutely do that). For lunch, get stuck into a milk-bun beef burger with smoked cheese, fried onion rings, Thousand Island sauce and mustard with rosemary fries, a smashed-chickpea roll with green-tahini slaw, mushrooms and beetroot hummus, or the Dirty Bird – a sesame milk bun sandwiching fried chicken, chipotle, charred corn, mayonnaise and slaw. Crew is also pouring its own specialty Inglewood coffee – there’s a house blend for milk coffees, a single origin for black and espresso, as well as filters and batch brews.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
