Sure, the 60-seat Burleigh Heads edition of Bondi Grill’e is larger and more upmarket than its southern sibling – but you can still expect to get messy and use the wet wipes, because favourites like the basted ribs, juicy towering burgers and saucy wings are still the highlight. However, Bondi Grill’e’s owners (and chefs) Armando Franco, Mannoell Junior Martins and Nicolas Martins have woven more refined dishes into the Burleigh venue’s debut menu, introducing a wider selection of share plates, fresh local seafood and salads alongside the meaty signatures.
To start, think shareable dishes like seared saku tuna with pickled vegetables, grilled king prawns with garlic butter and chilli oil, and slow-roasted pork belly with carrot puree, dried grapes and red-wine jus. There’s a solid series of steaks on offer, ranging from a Darling Downs rib eye to a one-kilogram Cape Grim tomahawk, which are all smothered in a top-secret baste before being grilled and served with either chips or a baked potato. The full and half racks of slow-cooked beef, lamb and pork ribs are (very) hard to pass up, or you can spice up your life with a punchy chargrilled Portuguese-style whole chicken. However you roll, just be sure to add a bowl of roasted potatoes with goats cheese and paprika-dusted pepitas on the side.
Bondi Grill’e Burleigh is now open for dinner seven nights a week, with weekend lunches to kick off soon.
