Ring in the new year with a vintage carnival celebration, retro anthems and island vibes, all in the heart of Southport

While Christmas has the spotlight right now, New Year's Eve is hot on its heels – so it's time to start firming up your party plans. Southport Sharks will once again be a buzzing hub for New Year's Eve revellers of all ages, and this year there's a little bit of everything on the cards. Think a carnival-themed cocktail party, boogie-worthy retro tunes, a laid-back Hawaiian soiree and not one but two fireworks extravaganzas.

For a touch of sparkle and glamour, ring in the new year with glittering skyline views at Aviary Rooftop Bar. Guests will don formal cocktail attire and be swept into the bygone era of vintage carnivals, complete with roving carnival performers, a flowing champagne tower and old-world grandeur. Tickets to the luxe affair include a four-hour premium beverage package, a welcome cocktail, and a sumptuous spread of canapes and authentic Italian pizzas. DJ Marea will be spinning sounds from 8:00 pm to 1:00 am, and revellers will also score sky-high views of the spectacular fireworks displays. The first release of tickets to Avairy’s carnival-inspired rooftop party sold out within days – so be quick to jump on the second release of tickets here.

Dreaming of a tropical holiday? Say aloha to 2024 and be transported to paradise for the ultimate island-style celebration at Cabana Bar & Lounge, which will transform into a Hawaiian-themed oasis for the big night. The Aloha New Year’s Eve bash will kick off at 7:30 pm with a welcome drink on arrival, before a spread of tropical-inspired canapes tantalise taste buds and fuel the fun-filled times ahead. Back-to-back live sets from Cabana Bar’s resident DJ will keep party-goers on their feet in between mojitos, before the dazzling fireworks displays welcome the new year with a colourful bang. Tickets to Cabana Bar’s Hawaiian soiree are just $49 – and they’re selling fast, so be quick to book your spot here.

If you’d prefer to feast your way merrily into the new year, gather your nearest and dearest and enjoy mountains of trawler-fresh seafood and decadent delights at Southport Sharks’ mouth-watering New Year’s Eve buffet. Following your final feast for the year, you can roll straight onto the dance floor where That Retro Band will be belting out all of the biggest tunes from across the decades well into the night. Retro-inspired outfits from any era are most welcome – so if you’re keen to add some flair to your New Year’s Eve festivities, lean into the theme and don your finest retro ‘fit, then boogie your way into 2024. Party-goers are also guaranteed front-row seats to Southport Sharks’ explosive fireworks displays, which will light up the skies at both 9:00 pm and 12:00 am. Tickets to New Year’s Eve at Sharks are $75 for adults (kids start from $13.90) and are available here.
