Charr’d brings tender meats and saucy eats to the Coolangatta beachfront

If you like it slow, tender and a little bit saucy, then Coolangatta's newest casual eatery is bound to get you a little hot under the collar. Charr'd is the name of this delicious new hang, and it's bringing a tasty wave of succulent chargrilled meaty delights to the seaside hub. Bust out the wet wipes, pals – this could get juicy.

Charr’d, which is the newest addition to The Strand precinct on the Coolangatta beachfront, is all about serving incredibly tender meats like lamb, chicken and beef, which are cooked over an open flame using lava-rock charcoal. The result? A crispy exterior encasing a reservoir of juiciness and a distinct smoky flavour. We’ll just give you a moment alone to let that sink in … now pick your jaw up from the ground and keep reading. So, Charr’d is the first of its kind and is the newest venture from The Bhudda Group – these guys have a bunch on the go at the moment (it’s a secret, we’ll keep you posted).

The flagship Charr’d space in Coolangatta has a super-casual vibe – totally acceptable to rock up in thongs, order a schooner and gaze lovingly at the menu. The state-of-the-art spit and open-flame barbecue are firing on the daily, cooking everything from pork ribs, to beef brisket and delicious lamb shoulder. The hero here is the butterfly chicken, which is cooked over the volcanic lava rocks  – just choose your favourite cut of the chook and one of three specialty barbecue spice rubs. For the indecisive, the mixed-grill platter is the go – it comes with chicken, lamb, beef brisket, corn on the cob, fries and smoky chorizo (for a little extra meatiness).

Into burgers? There’s everything from pulled-pork to chicken-thigh varieties, as well as wraps, all filled with crisp lettuce and fresh slaw. Not into meat? There’s a brioche burger brimming with chargrilled vegetables, haloumi (yesss) and garlic hummus that has your name on it. Even the desserts come piping-hot off the charcoal – choose from caramelised pineapple steaks with vanilla ice-cream or the grilled banana with salted-caramel sauce and maple-bacon crisps … what a saucy dream.
