If you take your cheese boarding seriously or you fancy yourself a bit of a sandwich aficionado, Meda Deli in Mermaid Beach has you covered on both fronts. The venue is the handiwork of Damian Dzuderija, who grew up in Mermaid Beach, back when the cinema, the double-storey McDonalds and Sizzler were the places to hang. As much as he loved the beach life, his career and passion for food took him to Melbourne. Thankfully for our taste buds, he’s back and brought with him a steller selection of products and brands he’s aligned with over 30 years in the food industry to fill the shelves. The cabinets are brimming with the best of the best, including Spanish salami from Barossa Fine Foods and Salumi small goods from the Northern Rivers. As for the cheese, there’s something please every taste, whether your preference is hard, soft or washed rinds. If all of that browsing has left you a little peckish, you’re in luck as Meda Deli offers a range of drool-inducing sandwiches showcasing the store’s delectable inventory. First, choose your bread and then choose your country – The Italian is a vibe (mortadella, provolone, marinated artichoke and kalamata olives), while classic tastes will appreciate The French (ham on the bone, port salute, cornichons, dijon mustard). Those with an appetite bigger than Ben-Hur can chow down on The Hungary (roast lamb, roast pork, roast beef, kalamata olives, marinated artichokes, sundried tomatoes, pesto, pickles, gruyere, goat’s curd). You’ll also find Proud Mary’s coffee beans flowing through the machines.
