Hidden down the far end of the dining strip, on any given night patrons overflow out of the venue onto the footpath, a testament to its popularity. Owner and head chef Nam Suk-Hyun brings a warm and friendly vibe to the casual eatery, something which is carried through to the extensive menu. You may want to grab a Japanese beer or a glass of organic wine prior to tackling that bad boy, you may be a while. From tasty tapas to melt-in-your mouth sashimi, hand-rolled sushi, gyozas and plentiful mains spanning every possible protein group, Hachi dishes up a wide variety of Japanese fare modified to suit Australian tastes. The wasabi salmon is chef Nam’s specialty dish but be warned, it’s a sinus clearer! The portions err on the generous side and there’s a satisfying selection of Japanese beer, wine, whisky, sake and cocktails on offer however it’s also BYO wine. Hachi has also recently unveiled a limited lunch menu from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and offers cheap and cheerful eats including $5 plates of karaage and $5 curry – helloooo happiness!
