If you take your pizza seriously, you’ll already know that Double Zero is about as authentic as it gets with its Robina iteration often bursting at the seams. The ownership team behind the much-loved venue has welcomed a southern sibling into the family, it’s located along Marine Parade in Coolangatta (next door to Grill’d). When it comes to the menu, rather than simply rinse and repeat the tried-and-tested favourites from Robina, head chef Stefano Pozzi has curated a selection of modern Italian interpretations that aren’t loyal to any particular region of Italy, with elements of Emilia Romagna, Lombardia and Lazio, to name a few all represented. If you only choose one plate from the entree section, make it the chargrilled local octopus with creamy mashed potatoes and ‘nduja, black olives and pickled market beans. Turophiles (aka connoisseurs of cheese) will be in their element perusing the selections from the Cheese Bar, which features a homemade burrata alongside a creation lovingly called Caprese Bomb, which is a globe of mozzarella buffalo filled with Caprese salad atop a bed of Truss tomatoes. There’s a selection of focaccias to choose from alongside a scattering of pastas, including the seriously drool-inducing Risotto Artichoke Cacio & Pepe, topped with creamy artichoke mousse and crisp, fried chucks of artichoke. If you’ve had the pleasure of dining at one of Sara and Gianluca’s venues, you will know that they specialise in authentic Italian-style pizza made with love. On the menu, you’ll find classics such as Margherita and a prosciutto-and-rocket-topped creation alongside the next-level Moreton Bay pizza, which features Moreton Bay bugs, garlic butter, salmon caviar and caper flowers. The team has grand plans to introduce a breakfast and brunch offering alongside a grab-and-go lunchtime menu. Rounding out Double Zero Coolangatta’s offering is a stellar line-up of local and Italian wines, Italian-style cocktails created by the venue’s bar manager Riccardo, spritzers and Precinct Brewing Co’s craft beer.
