Tru-Colour was born in 2014, spurred by an adoptive dad’s desire to affirm and celebrate his son’s identity for who he was, even in something as seemingly simple as an adhesive bandage. The American-based company recognises that not all skin looks the same and has developed a range of Latex-free plasters and kinesiology tape in three different shades – one for olive to mid-brown tones, mid to dark-brown tones and dark-brown to black tones. Tru-Colour is owned by a diverse team that is committed to empowering people by helping them heal better but also feel better by validating the person rather than the product.

Tru-Colour’s adhesive strips are made from polyester and rayon, and are not only strong but soft on the skin. The packs contain two different sizes because similarly to skin tone, not all injuries look the same. Tru-Colour’s adhesive bandages are available online here and are currently rolling out in Woolworths stores nationally. Band-Aid, which was created in 1920, has also recently unveiled a range of different skin-tone colours, however there has been no announcement on whether the colours will be made available in Australia.
