Roll in to summer on an Australian-first acrylic skateboard from Gold Coast Longboards

Since its humble beginnings in 2015, local brand Gold Coast Longboards has been making waves in the skating world, delivering minimalist skateboards that won't cost a kidney. Now, owners Leigh and Stephanie Warner are changing the game once again with the launch of an Australian-first product – acrylic skateboards.

Partnering with Gold Coast artist Joclyn Warner from Little Blue Creations, the bespoke boards are completely transparent and feature hand-crafted resin wave art on the top half of the board. Tying in seamlessly with the brand’s ethos and focus on simple, clean aesthetics, the acrylic skateboards draw inspiration from the ocean, nature, travel and the Gold Coast lifestyle.

While change can be difficult, the acrylic range has been extensively (and we mean extensively) tried and tested to deliver the same stability, strength and performance as traditional timber decks. “They skate, flex and perform as well as any other skateboard in their respective categories,” said Leigh. “Being acrylic, the grip provided on either bare feet or with suitable skating shoes is more than enough, which not only helps with performance but also adds to the aesthetic of the board and completely eliminates any rashes or grazes caused by a coarse grip tape.”

Keen to nab one of these beauties for yourself? You’d better be quick as each board is made to order. Current orders placed on the Gold Coast Longboards website now are expected to be delivered by late November, just in time for when the big red bearded guy comes to visit. The ocean boards are not yet available through any of Gold Coast Longboard’s stockists.
