The round-up: Giddy-up! Hot tips on where to spend Melbourne Cup on the Gold Coast

It’s that time of year again – Melbourne Cup is hot on our heels! It’s time to work out where to be fabulous with your fillies and sip with your stallions on Tuesday November 2, so we took the liberty of collating a handy list to help you decide where to celebrate Melbourne Cup on the Gold Coast. It’s time to saddle up, pop some bottles and get a little bit fancy.

Gold Coast Turf Club, Bundall
Given it’s the home of racing on the Gold Coast, it makes sense that the Gold Coast Turf Club will be pulling out all stops for the occasion and friends, they did not disappoint. Aquis Park, the Gold Coast Turf Club’s residence, has popped the cork on a range of party packages from laid-back picnics to a sensational cocktail-style party with all of the bells and whistles. While tickets are flying out the door fast, there are a few remaining for The Palms picnic, Melbourne Cup day edition. If you’re keen to flaunt your fashion prowess, head to the Glasshouse Fashion Luncheon for a two-course lunch teamed with a six-hour drinks package. Though, if you’re keen to go all out, The Event Centre Melbourne Cup Day Party is just the ticket to enjoy a winning day at the races, with a tasty grazing menu and beverage package, live entertainment and all of the action live on the big screen. Head here for all of the info.

The Star Gold Coast, Broadbeach
With a number of its key venues hosting FOMO-inducing soirees, The Star is offering a range of packages and dining options to suit every type of punter. Fun, food and fashion will be the order of the day at Garden Kitchen & Bar with a tantalising three-course meal and accompanying three-hour drinks package or, for something a little more chill, opt for an Insta-worthy picnic on the lawn. Cucina Vivo invites you to while away the afternoon with a wine in hand over a fanciful five-course Italian spread and Atrium Bar is keeping things casual with party pies, gourmet finger sandwiches and sparkling wine on arrival. If you take your race viewing seriously, catch all of the action live (and very very loud) on Sports Bar’s ridiculously big 10.5 metre screen whilst dining on a decadent buffet, which features fresh oysters and chilled prawns, slow-roasted premium beef strip loin and a line-up of juicy sides.

Nineteen at The Star, Broadbeach
Turn 2021 around and enjoy an afternoon filled with fine fare, top-shelf tipple and excellent company at Nineteen at The Star. The superlative sky-high venue will once again be pulling out all stops for the occasion to deliver two all-inclusive packages befitting its well-earned reputation. For those who prefer a civilised sit-down affair, the restaurant is offering a three-course long lunch with  four glorious hours of free-flowing beverages. If cocktail-style is more your vibe, the bar is the place to be with a glass of Veuve Clicquot on arrival followed by a four-hour drinks package and canapes. There will be live DJ sets, fashions on the rooftop and of course, all of the action from Flemington on the big screens. Tickets to the restaurant are $375 per person and the cocktail party is $179 per person with the option to add a Veuve Clicquot upgrade for $50 per person.

JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa, Surfers Paradise
If you haven’t yet had a chance to treat your peepers to the fresh new-look JW Marriott, then, friends – consider this a sign. The Surfers Paradise locale is pulling out all the stops for this year’s Melbourne Cup celebrations, from a decadent ball to a refined high tea event. JW Marriott’s spectacular Grand Ballroom will host one of the coast’s biggest Melbourne Cup luncheons, featuring an indulgent lunch, plentiful sips and live entertainment, while the Tamborine Gallery High Tea will have bottomless Moet Chandon on offer alongside plenty of delicious bites. Both events will turn up the glamour with fashions on the field sponsored by Harbour Town Premium Outlets.

Burleigh Pavilion, Burleigh Heads
If the cup is first and foremost about the fashion, food and fun (not to mention bubbles overlooking beautiful Burleigh beach), book a seat at Burleigh Pavilion’s beachside function post haste. Along with all of the usual cup-day entertainment on the big screens, there will be resident DJ’s spinning party tunes and excellent prizes for best dressed. The day’s menu will feature Sydney rock oysters, fresh prawns with cocktail sauce, puff bread with prosciutto di Parma, braised lamb shoulder with gremolata and Greek salad.  Tables at Burleigh Pavilion’s Melbourne Cup event are limited are $99 per person. To book, jump over here but be quick, it will sell out.

The Island Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise
Sip champagne in the sunshine and get giddy with all of the race-day action at The Island Gold Coast. The venue has compiled a range of packages depending on the kind of Melbourne Cup experience (and budget) you desire. The Birdcage on the Island Rooftop is a seated event complete with three champagne-filled hours of premium beverages as well as mouth-watering hot and cold canapes and share plates served to your table throughout the afternoon. The G.H. Mumm Gala Luncheon will be held in the new Island Glasshouse and includes a palate-pleasing range of cocktails by the carafe (hellooo happiness) and sensational spritz. If you’re really keen to ball out this Melbourne Cup, book a seat in the Bubbles & Pearls Pavilion in the Island Penthouse, which is every bit as exclusive as it sounds.

The Collective, Palm Beach
The much-loved Palm Beach institution is bringing you 2021’s instalment of its Spring Fling. Celebrate in style with a four-course lunch and a welcome bite from the venue’s five kitchens as well as bubbles on arrival, or level up and choose the Parade Ring ticket for a cocktail rooftop party including an oyster bar, roaming canapes and a three-hour premium beverage package. There will be fashions on the field comps and the race will be shown on a huge four metre screen so you won’t miss a moment. There’s also a live band to finish off the afternoon on the right note. Tickets are $79 to $179 and selling fast.
