Embrace the sunny side of life at Coolangatta’s brand-new Mediterranean eatery, Kefi Cafe

Over the summer break (if we can even call it that), the Gold Coast welcomed an array of new spots to add to your must-hit list. One such newcomer is Kefi Cafe, on the corner of Griffith and McDonald Street (under Reflections Tower two). The beautiful new tangerine-hued Mediterranean-inspired eatery is founded on the principle of serving soul-nourishing food made with love. If you could do with a little health after the holidays, here's everything you need to know ...

In Greek, there’s a word with no direct English translation – ‘kefi.’ So much more than a word, kefi embodies a way of life. To live with kefi means embracing a lifestyle marked by joy, prioritising happiness, enjoying life’s simple pleasures, fostering positive connections and approaching challenges with an optimistic mindset. It’s about savouring the moment. Coolangatta’s cheerful new eatery, aptly named Kefi Cafe, aims to encapsulate that very feeling. Kefi Cafe is the brainchild of Marina Ghobrial, who brings over ten years of hospitality expertise (including managing Pawpaw Cafe in Brisbane) to this vibrant venue. “It’s time to turn my dream of opening a cafe into reality. I believe in spreading sunshine through soul-nourishing food and fostering a close-knit community,” says Marina. To create her vision, Marina enlisted the help of Eddie Studio and Konpak Homes, alongside Meka Build, to bring to life a 60-seat space that oozes chic Mediterranean sunset vibes complete with splashes of tangerine.

Heading the kitchen is head chef Vy Truong, who has spent the last decade working at various esteemed venues from Melbourne to Brisbane. Vy has created a Mediterranean-inspired menu that is heavily influenced by travels abroad. “I believe that food is a universal love language and at Kefi Cafe, we are dedicated to crafting a menu that is fresh, fulfilling and comforting,” says Vy. The morning morsels range from light bites such as acai bowls and bircher muesli to more substantial bites including Turkish eggs, a Spanish omelette loaded with spiced eggs, potato, chilli butter, rocket, parmesan and kalamata crumb, and a jam-packed breakfast pita. Those with a hankering for lunch can tuck into a gyros plate that is guaranteed to ignite the kefi in you with confit-lamb shoulder, tzatziki, salsa, crispy chickpeas, a slather of hummus, salsa verde and flatbread, while the spaghetti gamberi is guaranteed to transport your taste buds to the Mediterranean coastline with prawns, lemon, garlic, chilli oil and black salt. Flowing through the machines you’ll find Five Senses Coffee, a sustainable specialty coffee that’s committed to delivering exceptional quality with a positive impact, alongside juices and smoothies. From 10:00 am, there’s also a succinct scattering of cocktails.

Kefi Cafe is now open! Head to our Stumble Guide for opening times.
