The Esplanade at Paradise Point is the home of Burleigh Baker’s newest artisan bakehouse and shopfront, meaning those on the northern end no longer need to make the pilgrimage south for their daily fix. The range is much the same as James Street – award-winning sourdough and an expansive range of artisan breads, sweet and savoury pastries, fresh sandwiches, specialty coffee (by new local roaster Handsome Coffee) and a menu with a handful of dine-in and takeaway breakfast options. From 7:00 am daily, the cabinet is lined with freshly baked croissants, sweet pastries and tarts, a colourful assortment of individual cakes and biscuits, plus too-pretty-to-eat whole cakes (that can also be pre-ordered – check out the options on this dedicated Instagram account).
As for the savouries, flaky sausage rolls and a variety of hot pies (think fillings like grass-fed beef and Jerusalem artichoke) made with sourdough pastry are easy grab-and-go options, while those with a little more time can sit down to simple dishes like bacon-and-egg buns with smoked-tomato relish, free-range eggs on either sourdough toast or a croissant, a herb and cheese omelette and a housemade daily soup with garlic sourdough. Love a good sanga? Burleigh Baker’s famed made-to-order sandwiches are available all day – choose from Reubens (pastrami, English cheddar, pickled red cabbage and mustard), BLTs and Vietnamese banh mi rolls loaded with free-range pork, pate, pickled carrot and chilli mayo.
