Bun Lee brings banh mi, bao buns and cold-brew coffee to Burleigh Heads

Burleigh Heads is a melting pot of global flavours with fare from all around the world represented within the beachside hub. The latest to take up residence within the bustling James Street strip is Bun Lee Bun + Brew – a light and bright takeaway nook that is dedicated to beautifully fresh banh mi, baos and cold-brew coffee. Here's everything you need to know about this small but mighty newcomer ...

When it comes to eating on the run, quickness tends to come at the expense of quality or flavour. Bun Lee is here to fill the void for fast, fresh and healthy lunches on-the-go. The pastel-hued haven has transformed the former Soul Bowl site into a tasty takeaway nook that can have you fed and caffeinated in just a few minutes. Banh mi is the hero here, which for the uninitiated, is a crisp baguette roll loaded with your choice of meat or tofu alongside traditional Vietnamese fillings such as carrot, coriander, cucumber and chilli. The set-up is similar to what you might expect from a Zambrero or Subway, where you choose your protein and then your filling. Bun Lee also offers a succinct selection of grab-and-go rice paper rolls that are made in-house daily alongside bao buns and vermicelli-salad bowls that are made fresh to order by the venue’s Vietnamese-trained chef. Wash it down with a cold-brew coffee, which is served straight-up or topped with your choice of milk or plant-based mylk.

Bun Lee is the brainchild of Lindsay Green, who recently moved to the Gold Coast from Melbourne. Lindsay has been visiting Burleigh Heads on family holidays for years and noticed there was a gap in Burleigh’s daytime offering for food that was quick and affordable but also tasty, fresh and healthy. Bun Lee is here to fill that gap whilst honouring Lindsay’s passion for health and love of bold Vietnamese flavours that pack a punch. The produce is locally sourced and Bun Lee is proudly single-use plastic free. There are gluten free and vegan options available.

If you’re on the hunt for something fresh and tasty, pop in to Bun Lee and grab a bite. Roll over to our Stumble Guide for opening times.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
