Gallery One’s newest exhibition, Goompi Dreaming, features works from Gold Coast-based Aboriginal artist Goompi Ugerabah. Goompi Dreaming is a collection of striking visual representations that take a slightly different stylistic direction and a more personalised tone than that of the artist’s previous exhibition work.
Born and raised on the Gold Coast, Goompi is fervently inspired by his connection to Kombemerri country, the land that extends from the Coomera River to Currumbin and then from the sand to where the sun sets on the hills. Goompi is a proud tribal man dedicated to presenting his culture in various art forms such as dance, song, language and visual expression. Laying his culture out on canvas is as much a spiritual practice as it is a creative expression of storytelling.
