Live and local – Gold Coasters get treated to a month of free music

If you like your music live, loud and local, then your ears are in for a treat this winter. Popular beachfront concert series Seaside Sounds will return to Burleigh Hill for the month of July, plus (yes, there's more) the organisers have also announced a similar weekly free-music offering for the northern end called Winter in the Vale.

Family-friendly beachfront beats series Seaside Sounds will kick off its month of music on Sunday July 7, allowing locals to pull up a rug on Burleigh Point and kick back on Sunday afternoons with free live music from some of the city’s best up-and-coming acts. On July 7 it’s Hussy Hicks and Josh Lovegrove, on July 14 it’s Electrik Lemonade and Steve Cousins, followed by Port Royal and Katie Who on July 21, and The Lyrical and ELSKA on July 28. The Seaside Sounds series will run from 2:00–5:00 pm every Sunday at Burleigh Point.

The northern folk are getting their own winter music series (hurrah!), which will be held at the forecourt of the Helensvale Library and Cultural Centre on Friday nights. Named Winter in the Vale, the weekly event will launch on Friday July 5 and will continue each week until August 9. The first event will feature Hussy Hicks and Jade Soul Music, then on July 12 it’s Black Rabbit George and Steve Cousins, on July 19 ELSKA and Katie Who will hit the stage, then Josh Lovegrove and The Twine will bring the beats on July 26. On August 2 you’ll experience Felicity Lawless and Obi Sun, before Taylor and The Lyrical round out Winter in the Vale on Friday August 9.

So, there you go – a full month (and a bit) of live music for ya’ll to enjoy – no matter what end of the coast you live on.
