This year, the not-for-profit festival, which celebrates the age-old tradition of gathering in local ‘small halls’ for a special night of live music, storytelling and community connection, will feature award-winning English singer-songwriter Blair Dunlop and famed high-energy Queensland duo, Hat Fitz and Cara. The summer leg of Festival of Small Halls partners with the Mullum Music Festival (where it starts) and the Woodford Folk Festival (where it finishes) in order to bring the best contemporary and folk artists to small towns – places that are off the beaten track and usually left off the big tours.

Local spots like the Mt Nimmel Hall in Austinville (November 20), the Eureka Public Hall (inland from Byron Bay, held on November 23) the Springbrook Community Hall (December 14) are just some of the locations on the 20-town tour, which will travel from the Darling and Western Downs areas, then to the Cairns rainforests areas before wrapping up at the Woodford Folk Festival over the new-year period.
