Gearing up for another cracker year, the 2018 Byron Bay Surf Festival kicks off on Thursday (February 22) with the Surf Legends Lounge at the Byron Bay Community Centre Theatre. Hosted by Surfing World’s Vaughan Blakey, you can expect some of the biggest legends in surfing chatting about the weird, wonderful and ever-evolving world of riding waves. Friday introduces the new Free Radicals surf jam featuring shorter high-performance alternative surf crafts and the current leaders in radical surfing that are guaranteed to blow minds with their mad skills. Afterwards, kick back with the family-friendly Sunset Cinema on the grass at Denning Park.
Saturday’s Surf Art Markets will keep you entertained and inspired with master surfboard shapers, environmental groups, workshops, fashion, and art. On Sunday, return to the spiritual sands of Wategos beach for the ever popular Freestyle & Stoke surf sessions event featuring a range of exhibition-style surf categories including the McTavish Trim. After dark, the party kicks on every night with an epic line-up of music at the legendary Beach Hotel. Founded in 2010 the annual Byron Bay Surf Festival is a non-competitive event focusing on surf culture – highlighting creativity, innovation, environment and sustainability.
