Ride the wave to The Swell – Byron Bay’s new nomad-inspired boutique hotel

If a Byron Bay getaway wasn't in your future, it most definitely is now. A host of luxe accommodation spots are opening in the seaside town, and we've just caught wind of another impressive newcomer. Say hello to The Swell, a nomad-inspired boutique hotel that's different from the rest.

Featuring 16 one-of-a-kind, custom-designed suites, The Swell has taken the bones of an iconic motorside lodge and made it new and oh-so pretty. The vision for the new accommodation locale was brought to life by Californian natives and renowned creatives Andrew Maltin and DayNa Decker, who now call Byron Bay home. The pair says The Swell fuses their love for design, holistic wellbeing and a sense of nomadism. “We wanted to capture the essence of Byron culture and the Australian coastline, whilst adding an international flavour inspired by our nomadic travels, and the incredible creatives we’ve met along the way,” says Andrew and DayNa.

The Swell’s interiors will transport guests to the 1970s, with earthy colour palettes melding with textured woods and lush velvets in rich, saturated tones. Photographic artworks by American lensmen Slim Aarons and Australian creative Aquabumps are featured throughout while bespoke furnishings line the fluid indoor-outdoor spaces. The hotel is decorated with lush tropical gardens and features a bespoke marble-tiled pool that conjoins to a bar that serves small-batch cocktails and organic wines. As well as a bar, the hotel boasts an onsite cafe, with both offerings designed by Roundhouse Byron Bay’s previous owner and Highlife co-founder, Adam Coates, who is now The Swell’s general manager. The neighbouring wellness space is sure to have guests relaxing in true tranquility, with a Clearlight Infrared Sauna to sweat it out in, an Odin Ice Bath to plunge in and a number of treatments promising a good dose of R&R.

Check out The Swell’s Instagram page if you’re keen on giving yourself some wanderlust or just go ahead and make a booking online
