Plant-based gifts – The Borrowed Nursery unveils The Botanica Box

Gift hampers are funny things. Does anyone actually like getting fruit chutney, cleanskin wine and chocolate-coated ginger in an unfashionable cane hamper as a gift? No sir, we most certainly do not. That's why our hearts fluttered a little when we heard about The Botanica Box by The Borrowed Nursery. It's a newly launched botanical-inspired gift-delivery service that is ditching the less-than-appealing products for local goodness like plants, small-batch gin and hand-crafted candles.

Firstly, let’s all give a joyous high five to Lauren Lance from The Borrowed Nursery – she’s the brains behind The Botanica Box, which will see botanical-inspired goodies boxed up and delivered across the Gold Coast. For now, the delivery service will reach as far north as Southport and as far south as Coolangatta. In the new year, the service will expand with a greater delivery reach, so keep an eye out online.

So, what’s in the box? For now there are three boxes to choose from, with more variations (including the ‘his and hers’ and the ‘home edition’) to come in 2018. Each box will come standard with a potted plant by The Borrowed Nursery in a stylish cement pot, a hand-poured candle by Byron Bay’s Posie, and a seeded gift card by Inartisan (you actually plant the card when you’re done with it – so rad). The final addition to the boxes is something drinkable. You can opt for the two bottles of Stone & Wood with a brass bottle opener – let it be known this is a decent and super heavy bottle opener, a far cry from the ones you’ll get out of a Christmas bonbon. The second option is loose-leaf tea by Nana Fair Tea, paired with a super-cool tea infuser. The third box option comes with a 50-ml bottle of Brookie’s Dry Gin (yes please) with two bottles of Dirty Tonic by Strangelove, as well as the before-mentioned brass bottle opener.

Goodbye, ugly hampers! It’s time to jump online and get gifting, pals.
