The Mez Club sends Byron Bay foodies into a Mediterranean spin

Byron Bay is buzzing – and new foodie hub, The Mez Club, is fuelling the fire with its spread of Mediterranean eats and vibrant cocktails, making it a must-visit happy hour venue and dining space. You'll be forgiven for having a total #throwbackthursday moment to your Mediterranean holiday.

Step inside The Mez Club’s striking double-storey whitewashed interior, and your eyes are drawn to the contrasting timber wares. Rattan pendant lights drop own from the white wooden beams forming part of the apex-style roof, which comes together at an impressive thatched-straw peak. It’s suitably bright, white and welcoming. A few steps up the internal spiral staircase lead you to the casual and impeccably styled upper level. The unique open arches, the result of creative and rustic plasterwork, connect the space effortlessly, creating the perfect venue to enjoy fresh cocktails and tasty eats.

Expect a rotating spread of mezze options on the menu, accompanied by a range of vibrant dishes inspired by ancient cultures across Greece and Morocco. House specialties include a punchy spiced-up lamb kofte with pine nuts and mini currants served on dill tzaziki with fresh mint, and crispy Cypriot haloumi with pickled pink onion and pomegranate molasses. Mix it up with a tasty shish kebab filled with succulent meat, vegetables or tender fish, or try a Mez Club pizza for one. The cocktail list mirrors the size of the food menu, with mojitos, margaritas plus a hefty line-up of fresh gin-based cocktails. The popular Turkish Princess, with vodka, Turkish delight and prosecco is hands down a must-try, and if gin is your thing, then get a load of the Ink Gin and tonic – which features an organic, botanically infused gin from the nearby Northern Rivers region. We love a sneaky happy hour as much as the next person, but we reckon that pairing awesome cocktails with Mediterranean fare like crispy fried haloumi is next-level genius.
