The owners of Osteria and Taverna unveil Kingscliff’s newest dining space The Bombay Cricketers’ Club

Foodies, your attention please. There's a spicy new addition to the region's dining scene that's well worth travelling south for. It's called The Bombay Cricketers' Club, it's located in Kingscliff, and it will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about Indian cuisine. Think less creamy sugar-laden curries and more dishes like cumin-spiced lamb shoulder with watermelon-rind pickle and buffalo curd. Intrigued? Here's what you need to know.

The Bombay Cricketers’ Club is the latest notch in the belt of PLB Group, which also owns and operates Osteria in Casuarina, Taverna in Kingscliff and the soon-to-open Ancora in Tweed Heads. The group’s latest venue is located in the heart of the Salt Village precinct (right next door to Fins) and, as the name suggests, offers a menu based on two of the most diverse cuisines in the world – Indian and Sri Lankan. The Bombay Cricketers’ Club menu, which has been curated at the hands of chef Lia Wilson alongside Ved Navghare, the former head chef of Melbourne’s esteemed Tonka, delivers a modern take on the mouthwatering flavours and spices found in the Indian subcontinent.

The 50-seat venue is bright, white and breezy – it keeps true to the relaxed style of the Salt precinct and creates the perfect backdrop for diners to work their way through the refined and flavour-packed share-style menu. While there are familiar flavours like tandoori and vindaloo, the menu turns Indian cuisine as we know it on its head. You’ll find dishes like half-duck korma with toasted coconut, cashews and poppy seeds, punjabi prawn lettuce cups with a cucumber and coconut salad, and crispy pork with mint, green mango, fried onion and betel leaves. The Not Butter Chicken, prepared with local tomatoes, a dash of smoked cream and coriander, is a show stopper. The vegetarians are well catered for here, with eye-catching dishes like the green-rice stuffed peppers in a peanut curry with chilli caramel and ginger leaves. Oh, and you’ll be glad to learn that the bar is well-equipped with a series of fine wines carefully selected to best match the flavoursome menu. Hot tip – bring the crew with you so you can have a proper feast and really explore the depths of the menu.
