Chocolate-drenched strawberries, gelato, paddle boards and homewares – say hello to Tarte Market

Perched on the banks of Currumbin Creek, Tarte Beach House was always destined to become a Gold Coast icon. The unique two-in-one concept offers a casual walk-in-off-the-beach cafe on the ground level, while upstairs, diners can enjoy a more refined experience with full table service and a restaurant menu. Almost a year after opening, owner Chloe Watts has unveiled the final piece of the puzzle – Tarte Market. Part retail space part gelato bar, Tarte Market is a delightful mixed bag. We took a peek inside, and this is what we saw ...

Attracting the curious gazes of passers-by for weeks, the wraps are officially off Tarte Market. Transforming the space formerly occupied by the paddle board hire shop on the corner, the unique retail store concept is envisaged as an extension of everything you know and love about Tarte Beach House, from the gorgeous duck egg coffee mugs and jugs through to the venue’s own style of homewares and greenery. Gourmands have been quick to raid the shelves that are stocked with Tarte’s famous condiments and accompaniments, including pickles, crispy chilli oil (if you know, you know), miso butter and barbecue sauce, to name just a few. In the fridges, you’ll find a selection of artisanal deli goods such as confit garlic, prosciutto, Sicilian olives, Byron Bay mozzarella and free-range pork or chicken terrine for curating the perfect picnic spread. An exciting addition to Tarte Market is the range of heat and eat meals that are made in-house using Tarte’s top-quality ingredients. We’re talking family sized wagyu lasagne, wagyu bolognese pie with buffalo mozerella, country chicken pie, wagyu beef bourguignon, Osso Bucco and potato dauphinoise.

Rounding out Tarte Market’s offering is an artisan gelato bar. In true Tarte style, the gelato is made on a Queensland dairy farm using traditional Italian techniques including a super-slow churn to get the smoothest, creamiest gelato possible. Available in a range of Tarte-inspired flavours such as the drool-inducing dulce de leche, strawberry and creme friache, pistachio and Italian marshmallow. Once you’ve decided on the flavour, you can opt to pimp your scoop with the likes of hot melted chocolate, dulce caramel, Tarte cookie crumble and toffee macadamia, and more. Those in need of a hint of health can opt for the fruit cup instead, but good luck resisting the urge to add melted chocolate, whipped cream or vanilla gelato! For those who are keen to work off the dessert calories, there’s a range of custom Tarte stand-up paddle boards that will be hitting the water oh-so-soon.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
