Micka Scene

Micka Scene, Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist

Inspiration flows in the struggles and in the highs of love ...

In Short ...

Hailing from Byron Bay, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Micka Scene is a regular on the Gold Coast music scene. Well, that's when he's not touring and exploring the world. Locals that are familiar with his eclectic, high-energy one-man-band shows will be delighted to learn that Micka's first debut EP as a solo artists has been released. We caught up with Micka to chat new tracks, worldly experiences and creating memories.

Congratulations on the upcoming release of your new EP Undercovered! Tell us, what can we expect from this first release?
This is my first EP as a solo artist, so it really captures what I do live. It was more challenging than the band album, to capture a one-man-band set-up uniquely. Like my live shows, I feel its eclectic. No songs are the same.

What do you hope listeners take away from Undercovered?
Songs that feel like a time capsule to their life’s memories.

What would you consider to be some of the major influences in your work?
Like probably 90 per cent of the world’s music it’s love and heartache. Inspiration flows in the struggles and in the highs of love. So much of my life is spent on the road and travelling other countries, which is a constant source of inspiration, but also missing the people I love.

What would you say is the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career or life?
Probably from my late grandmother, she said “Micka, if you ever want something from this life, women included, all you have to do is ask.” Haha!

What do you find yourself drawing upon for motivation and inspiration?
Ohh this world-life I lead is a constant source of inspiration. Our world is mad, I can go from writing and singing about how much gratitude I have for this life, to being angry at the state of society and so-called leaders. I’m a ‘wonderluster’, so travelling beautiful unexplored countries and immersing myself in new cultures is important for me to progress.

What can we expect from you in the next 12 months?
This is the first EP release of three planned for the rest of this year. I’ve done most of the tracking now for the EP’s, I’ll be touring these albums in Oz and a short run through Canada and Europe.

Only a Gold Coast local would know …  that Mandala Cafe is the hottest place on the coast.

Finally, any words of wisdom that you live by?
A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.
