Sweet Lou’s is an eatery and bar on the Coolangatta beachfront, serving southern-American style food and vibrant cocktails. You can snack on smaller plates like buffalo cauliflower with blue-cheese sauce, char-grilled corn cobs with chipotle aioli, mac ‘n cheese croquettes and frickles (deep-fried pickles). Venture into burger territory with The Original Otis served simply with beef, cheese and pickles or get your mouth on The Mississippi burger with soft-shell crab, sriracha mayo, slaw and pickled cucumber. If you’ve got a big gap to fill, there’s a generously sized loaded fries with pulled beef, or you can get your hands dirty with the sticky ribs with slaw and fries. The vegans among us are (surprisingly) well looked after here, with dishes like the baked sweet potato with pulled jackfruit, pickled cabbage and a Jack Daniel’s glaze. Wash it all down with a cocktail or two – the Cadillac Margie will do just fine – then finish on a sweet note with the Willy Nelson waffles.
