Love sipping natural wine? This is the place to be. Supernatural is the work of Hunter Valley winemaker (and now Byron Bay local) Peter Windrim and hospitality identity Andy Love, who also co-owns popular Lennox Head dining spot Shelter. Supernatural’s well-considered list features around 50 different natural wines – around 90 percent of which are pouring by the glass. You’ll be taken on a world-wide wine tour in just one visit, with a wide variety of international producers showcased – from Greece to France, Hungary and Georgia – along with a small portion of Australian drops. As for the food, it comes with a catch – there’s no cutlery. Not one fork. It’s snack-style in essence, like refined finger food, where the only utensils on offer is a stash of toothpicks. The moreish menu is based around salty, citrusy and spicy flavours (think eats like deep-fried garlic-roasted mushrooms wrapped in bean skin with Amarillo chilli cream) and is designed so you can eat with one and, and drink your wine with the other. Once you’re done, you’re invited to throw your napkin on the floor – that’s the Supernatural way of giving props to the chef.
