Sofia’s Restaurant & Bar is is bringing a little taste of coastal Europe with a mouth-watering menu that is designed for sharing. Head chef Damien Styles, whose impressive 30-year career also includes Melbourne’s The Point in Albert Park, Charcoal Lane for Mission Australia and local favourites Etsu Izakaya and The Fish House, wanted to bring people together with good food and good wine. Start with a serve of the venue’s delightfully puffy house-made focaccia bread, followed by a selection of small plates such as kingfish crudo with blood-orange dressing, oysters with chardonnay mignonette, and heirloom tomato salad with basil and balsamic truffle glaze. Turophiles (or lovers of cheese) will be pleased to know there’s an entire section of the menu dedicated to cheese and salumi and there are three different types of pasta. The mains meander from grilled Mooloolaba king prawns and whole baby snapper to a petite 200 gram Tajima MS6 Wagyu strip-loin. To accompany the fare, Sofia’s Restaurant & Bar has curated an extensive (and seriously impressive) beverage list that takes you from pre-dinner cocktails through to dessert wines with boutique and hard-to-find drops from Italy, France, Spain, and of course Australia, all represented. The casually sophisticated vibe at Sofia’s is perfect for wine-filled long lunches, over-due catch ups with friends over cocktails and dinner dates that linger – a nod to the owner Henry Hunt’s Italian heritage.
