Hotel Komune Beach Club in Coolangatta is a haven for guests and locals to hang out around the pool and bar with a cocktail in hand. Part of the Hotel Komune resort, the Beach Club has recently unveiled a dreamy Mediterranean make-over that was inspired by Ibiza’s famous day clubs. The crisp white aesthetic is accentuated with pops of colour from fringed umbrellas shading plush poolside cabanas while upstairs, the arched balcony houses additional shaded seating alongside a fully stocked bar to keep the drinks flowing well into the afternoon. The grazing menu features bites of salt-and-pepper squid alongside dill-cured salmon sashimi and barbecue king prawns. For more substantial hungers, there’s a seafood linguine and a sourdough pizette loaded with tasty toppings. When it comes to the drinkables, there’s a succinct selection of wine, craft brews and Balter on tap. The real hero though is its New York City-inspired cocktail selection created by Kanan Clarke Jones, who has spent the last six years working in some of Manhattan’s finest drinking dens. After a few of those, we reckon you’ll be in fine form to hit up the new karaoke room (you know you want to!). There are plans to introduce a New York-style bottomless brunch so keep your peepers peeled.

Whether you’re staying overhead in the resort, or just looking for a place to lay low for awhile, the Hotel Komune Beach Club is a serious contender for your time to chill out and kick back. And if the borders ever open again and you’re planning a trip over to Bali, check out Hotel Komune at Keramas Beach – home to a hypnotising view of the world famous Keramas surf break.
