It’s always a good find when the owner of a cafe is a chef who has worked for international hotels and restaurants, and that’s what you will find at Cafe 928 in Southport. LJ Lee and wife Youanna Kim took over Cafe 928 in late April 2015, ready to breathe new life into the cafe that has been closed since late 2014. The menu is broad and bursting with a unique blend of Italian influences and other cultural twists. Freshly made fluffy golden waffles with homemade decadent sauces are a specialty for breakfast, alongside flaky croissants and other staples served with freshly cupped espresso and yoghurt smoothies. Lunch and dinner take on another dimension with pasta, pizza, pilaf and salads boasting unique flavours only an experienced chef would be prepared to serve. Try the tomato crab pasta, vongole, gamberoni oil pasta or tantalise your tastebuds with the blueberry steak pizza. Succulent rib eye, rocket and tomato are layered over a blueberry puree on a fresh pizza base – a concoction that can only be tasted to believe it works. With mains less than $20 and helpings on the generous side, you could find Cafe 928 might become a regular place to feast and catch up with friends.
