Located in Harrisville – a quick 45 minute drive from Brisbane and just over an hour from the Gold Coast – Summer Land Farm is Australia’s largest commercial camel dairy. The first thing you’ll want to do when you arrive is get up close and personal with a camel. To meet and greet these humped creatures, you can can take a farm tour where you will be guided on a behind-the-scenes expedition through the farm and its dairy operation, or you can jump on a wooly companion and enjoy a ride through the lush grounds. If you want to make the experience extra special, you can wake up at dawn to saddle a fluffy mate and journey around the property before tucking into some breakfast bites at the cafe, or dig in to a grazing platter of charcuteries and camel-milk cheese as you watch the camels roam the fields at sunset – with a cocktail in hand, of course.
If your ride around the farm has you famished, then pop into the Homestead Cafe for a feed. It’s here where you can sample Summer Land Farms’ beloved camel milk, camel-milk cheeses and camel-milk gelato – in flavours like salted caramel, honey and macadamia, and mixed berry. Carnivores can even taste-test camel meat with the the Homestead Camel Burger served with fried onions, tomato, lettuce, garlic aioli, barbecue sauce and camel-milk fetta or The Homestead Camel Hot Dog with camel sausage, fried onions, lettuce, garlic aioli, barbecue sauce and camel-milk cheese.
