A weekend skipping between massages and cocktails by the pool at a lavish adults-only resort is certainly one way to relax, but for busy people (not to mention parents to small humans and those without infinite cash reserves), that’s not always a possibility. What is, however, is a 90-minute micro-wellness session at Mermaid Beach’s new communal bathhouse, Soak Bathhouse. Completely transforming the former Lone Star Steakhouse in Pacific Square, Soak Bathhouse is a blissful urban oasis that is all about you. The sessions are self-guided, meaning how you choose to spend your 90 minutes is completely up to you – melt into the outdoor mineral spa that is heated to a balmy 38-degrees before getting a sweat on in the steam room or taking a dip in the outdoor plunge pool, which at 12-degrees will certainly reinvigorate the senses. Inside, a stunning magnesium-infused pool takes pride of place. For those who can handle the heat, there’s a traditional dry red-cedar wood sauna and a sundeck to sink into a deckchair and catch some rays. The micro-dose of wellness is intended for busy people to enjoy a little downtime without having to sacrifice an entire weekend to do it – genius!
In addition to the soak sessions, there are a range of add-on experiences such as a private infrared sauna, massages and LED express facials, if you’re really keen to maximise your ‘you time’. Soak Bathhouse also incorporates Flowhouse – a state-of-the-art digital yoga and meditation studio that plays out a rolling timetable of yoga, stretching and meditation classes so there’s always something showing. Soak also incorporates a co-working space, but good luck getting work done whilst that pool beckons! The haven of happiness is a passion project for Alexis Dyson, who knows all too well about the effects of burning the candle at both ends for too long. After suffering a host of stress-related conditions, Alexis decided there had to be another way, a better way, and she set about creating a space for time-poor people to embrace some healthier habits. Soak Bathhouse offers memberships as well as casual visits from just $49. Take a peek at the website here – your future self will thank you for it!
