If your four-legged friend is a little on the nose or your pupper pal sadly suffers from skin sensitivities, Cider & Basil is here to help. The pet-centric lifestyle brand was founded by Henrietta Lau in 2016 after her own dog, a 56 kg Maremma named Cider broke out in full-body welts after a bath with a pet-shop bought dog shampoo. The reaction was so severe that Henrietta took matters into her own hands and set out to create an all-natural, cleansing dog wash that not only smells delightful but is kind to irritated skin.

Sensitivity to regular pet shampoos is surprisingly common in canines and if you have a dog that breaks out after a bath, you know how challenging it can be to find a product that fights the pong whilst being gentle enough for your sensitive sidekick. Cider & Basil offers an all-natural sustainable pet care range with no nasties. The Australian-made shampoo bars are not only plastic-free (hooray!) but they’re packed with real botanicals and are made with solar-infused plant-based ingredients and enriched with natural clays and essential oils. The result is a long-lasting lather that leaves your pet’s skin feeling clean, soft and nourished. There are three delicious fragrances to choose from including rose geranium and pink claylavender and purple clay and peppermint and hemp-seed oil. Once they’re fresh and clean, give them a spritz with one of Cider & Basil’s sulphate and paraben-free pet sprays, treat their poor sore mitts to a little slather of paw balm followed by a treatment oil and your pampered pooch’s at-home doggy day-spa is complete.

Recognising that not all dogs love the bath, Cider & Basil extended the range to include 100 percent natural, ethically and locally sourced treats to provide a little edible incentive. Unlike the vast majority on pet shop shelves, these morsels are low-fat, low-salt and free of preservatives, colours and additives and include things like a tasty rack of kangaroo ribs and beef liver treats. Cider & Basil isn’t just for pampered pooches, there’s also a little something for their humans with a range of dog-friendly pure soy candles adorned with cute sayings like, ‘I would love to but my dog says no’, ‘I licked it so it’s mine’ and ‘Dogs. Netflix. Weekends.’, which if we’re honest are three of our favourite things. Oh, and you’ll be pleased to know that since developing the range of lush dog products, Cider hasn’t had any further break-outs, just in case you needed closure on that.
