Get ready for lightning-speed delivery – Amazon is opening a warehouse in Brisbane

When Amazon arrived on our shores in 2017 with its mammoth product selection of electronics, clothing, toys, books, sporting goods, beauty and more, you could say we were just a little bit excited. With a few good years in the online retailer market under its belt (and our credit cards looking a little worse for wear), the hugely successful company has decided to expand its operations, opening up a warehouse in Brisbane – and it will be ready to roll just in time for Christmas.

Set to open before Santa makes his yearly visit (we are crossing our fingers it’s also before the heart-rate-increasing Black Friday sales), Amazon’s newest multi-million-dollar facility – the fourth fulfilment centre in Australia – will be built at Goodman’s Port Industry Park in Lytton. Around the same size as two rugby fields, the enormous warehouse will store more than half a million items from Amazon’s online store. The bonus part? Shoppers can expect a super-quick delivery turnaround once the warehouse begins operating later this year, as the majority of the stored items are the most-purchased among us Queenslanders.

In even better news, the factory is set to provide hundreds of job opportunities for locals – woohoo! Works on the new facility will support more than 170 construction jobs over the development and fit-out phase and once up-and-running, the warehouse will provide around another 200 local jobs. The arrival of the new warehouse will also benefit Queensland-based small businesses who use Fulfilment By Amazon – a stress-free service where Amazon ships smaller retailers’ products to the customer. This means local sellers will be able to send their products to the Lytton warehouse where Amazon will then pick, pack and ship orders to customers, as well as provide customer service support and even handle returns on behalf of the seller.
