The round-up: Chinese delights – where to find the Gold Coast’s best yum cha

Are pillow-soft pork buns your jam? Or perhaps it's fluffy scallop-filled dumplings and crispy prawn toasts that get you going. Either way, it's all on offer when step into a yum cha feast. Some of you may be seasoned yum cha-eaters, others may be fairly new to the traditional Chinese style of brunch – either way, we thought we'd raise the chopsticks and enlighten you with a handy list of top spots to enjoy a yum cha feast on the Gold Coast.

Dragon Cove: Yum cha is best done with a view – and the Sanctuary Cove marina will do just fine. The impressive yum cha menu features top-end versions of all your favourites – and if you’re looking for pork buns done well, then this is your go-to. Keep it simple with scallop and prawn dumplings, or indulge in the chicken feet with black bean sauce if you’re really living on the edge.

Fu Manchu Oriental Kitchen: This Chevron Island hand is one of the coast’s go-to spots for modern Asian – if you love its flavour-packed menu then you’ll be drooling over its yum cha spread. Every Tuesday night you can tuck into a classic yum cha menu. Make sure you try the mini barbecue char siu pork buns with black sesame and chervil.

Dim Sum Delights: We love hidden gems. This delightful space is nestled in the backstreets of Robina, along Ron Penhaligon Way, and is often bursting at the seams with locals, Chinese expats and tourists on the hunt for some traditional fare. The secret’s out.

Yum Cha Cuisine: With locations at Robina Town Centre, Harbour Town and most recently an impressive new venue at Pacific Fair, Yum Cha Cuisine certainly has its namesake down-pat. The leek and prawn dumplings are a must-try on your yum cha rounds, and make sure you get your paws on the baked custard buns to finish.

Jasmine Room: Jasmine Room is a relatively new addition to the Gold Coast yum cha circuit. It opened in the Sundale precinct on Southport’s Como Crescent last year, and has quickly drummed up a solid following of Chinese-loving foodies. The char siu rice roll is a saucy delight, and the crispy roasted pork belly will have you salivating.

Aussie China Kitchen: This is where you’ll find traditional Chinese yum cha with a hint of modern flair. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, Aussie China Kitchen features an outdoor dining area, so you can bask in the sunshine and enjoy a long, relaxing yum cha feast in the heart of Broadbeach.

Thanh Binh Bamboo: Bringing together flavours of Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai and Chinese cuisines, this Coolangatta gem offers yum cha-style dining daily – you’ll find everything from pillow-soft steamed pork buns to deep-fried gyoza.

Sky Broadbeach: Located under The Oracle in Broadbeach, Sky serves up traditional Chinese fare in a modern setting. You’ll find this place bustling with locals and yum cha fanatics alike every day of the week.

Mandarin Court: This is one of the longest running Chinese restaurants on the Gold Coast – it’s been serving up yum cha and Chinese delights since 1979. Indugle in all of your favourite sweet anda savoury yum cha delights amid very traditional Chinese decor – think lots of gold, red leather booths, hanging lanterns and a classic Chinese vibe.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
