Sample drams from across the land at Mudgeeraba’s quaint new whisky bar

Whether you're a certified whisk(e)y connoisseur, are a wannabe whisky drinker trying to navigate the game or you fall neatly in between the two categories, Mudgeeraba's new home of drams, nips and top drops – a hidden bar named Whisky Lounge – will take you on a personalised sipping journey across the globe.

Nestled along Railway Street in Mudgeeraba’s village precinct, Whisky Lounge was due to open just days before the government-enforced lockdown measures were introduced. Now that we’ve all got a little more breathing room, the doors have officially swung open, giving locals a cosy new spot to sample, sip and enjoy an ever-growing collection of more than 130 different whiskies from around the world. You’ll be greeted by owners and whisky gurus Donald and Uwe, who have turned a collective hobby and passion into a playground for whisky appreciators of all levels. The duo set out to create a small bar with a true community feel – a place where locals could sip, learn and try new and unique whiskies, while being encouraged to kick back with a book from the shelf, a game of chess, or (on select nights) tap their toes to live acoustic tunes from local artists.

The vibe is intentionally casual and, given it operates under a small-bar licence, there’s no food – but you’re more than welcome to BYO snacks or takeaway meals from nearby eateries. As for the whiskies, you’ll start your journey in Scotland (where much of the menu is weighted), before exploring drops from America, Canada, Ireland, Japan, India, France and of course, right here in Australia. If you’re a whisky buff, you’re guaranteed to find something you haven’t tried – while those a little green to the spirit will be carefully guided to make sure you find the right starting point. The mammoth whisky menu is underscored by a handful of cocktails (both whisky-based and classic concoctions), as well as Four Pillars gin, Beenleigh rum and local beers.

Whisky Lounge is now open! Head to our Stumble Guide for its opening hours, address and contact details.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
