From fine dining to casual eating house – Broadbeach welcomes Wagyu Bar & Wine Ten

For more than a decade, Japanese fine-dining space Restaurant Ten has been delighting diners with its high-end fare, from sophisticated sashimi spreads to refined teppanyaki. Last month the restaurant quietly closed its doors, marking the end of an era for the somewhat under-the-radar dining space. Though, Restaurant Ten fans can raise their chopsticks and sake glasses once more, with the owners last week opening a more casual concept in its place – Wagyu & Wine Bar Ten.

The inconspicuous Restaurant Ten, which sat nestled under The Meriton tower on Elizabeth Avenue, was certainly more renowned for its authentic Japanese cuisine than its street presence. Now, under the guise of Waygu Bar & Wine Ten, the once very intimate and dimly lit dining den has been completely opened up, with high bars and oak wine barrels sprawling out onto the footpath for casual street-side eats and sips. The temperature-controlled wine cellar is now in full view, showcasing a curated series ranging from international drops to premium Australian wines (including a noteworthy collection of Penfolds Grange vintages), as well as minimal-intervention and natural wines, and a wide range of Japanese sake.

As its name suggests, the menu here shines the light on wagyu beef, with a selection of seafood dishes dotted throughout. It’s a more casual food offering, but still with that refined Restaurant Ten approach. Snack on smaller bites like the crumbed wagyu beef skewers, the wagyu tataki with ginger sauce, the soft-shell-crab karaage with spirulina seaweed and grapefruit sauce, or the daily sashimi platter. There’s also a series of larger plates – think dishes like grilled Patagonian toothfish with mustard, Kyoto-style ‘habi yaki’ grilled vegetables, as well as wagyu tasting platters that showcase a range of premium Australian cuts and highly marbled full-blood wagyu from Japan’s deep south. If you’re into late-night dining, you’re in luck – last orders are taken at 11:30 pm.
