Next-level dining at your place – The Star launches its new restaurant-to-home concept

We all know that dining out is different now. The hospitality landscape has changed, and everyone – venues as well as patrons – have had to change and adapt with it. Over at The Star Gold Coast, all restaurants have remained closed to diners, though an innovative shift in its operations has resulted in an exciting new concept dubbed 'Table for 2' – a restaurant-at-home experience allowing locals to bring the tastes of The Star into their own abodes. Keen for miso-glazed toothfish and a Japanese margarita at your place?

The Star’s 2020-style dining offering features take-home menus from popular venues Kiyomi, Garden Kitchen & Bar and Mei Wei Dumplings, with each restaurant serving either four or six courses of its favourite dishes and signature specialities for Gold Coast folk to experience the ultimate night in. If you’ve got a special occasion coming up, want to organise a date night, or a small intimate dinner party at home (sans cooking and washing up), then Table for 2 is well worth embracing.

If you’ve missed cutting-edge Japanese dining room Kiyomi, you’re in for a real treat. The team has crafted an extensive menu of unexpected dishes driven by complex flavours. At $120 for two people, Kiyomi’s sophisticated six-course menu features the likes of ocean trout with wasabi salsa and yuzu soy, and chicken robata with shio koji, mushroom and Brussels sprouts. For the main course, you’ll be experiencing the ocean at its best, with the iconic Dengakuman miso-glazed toothfish and zucchini, and an eye-catching seafood bouillabaisse with sambal butter. The Kiyomi meals will be delivered with a set of instructions on how to present the dishes and plate up – so you can have some fun and get creative!

Garden Kitchen & Bar’s hero dishes are also on offer through Table for 2, with its set menu ($100 for two people) starting with marinated olives, a local king-prawn salad, and haloumi with pickled figs. For the main, it’s braised beef short ribs with chat potatoes, and to finish – a decadent chocolate trifle.  You can also nosh on hawker-style eats from Mei Wei Dumplings, which is offering a comforting menu ($70 for two people) of steamed pork dumplings, pork-and-prawn wonton soup with egg noodles, spicy kung pao chicken, fried rice and delicious mango sago cream – all to be enjoyed on the comfort of your own couch.

We know what you’re thinking – what about the drinks? You’re covered there, too. The beverage wizards at The Star have put together a collection of hand-crafted take-home cocktails to pair with the meals – from a Japanese margarita to a cold-brew martini with sesame-infused vodka.

The Star’s Table for 2 offering is available seven days and can be pre-ordered via the website. There’s also a delivery service available if you live within a 10-km radius, or you can pick up directly from The Darling Porte Cochere.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Gold Coast dining guide with more than 870 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
