Natalie and Mark Perry, who are also behind Cafe 7 and The Local Paradise Point, know what it takes to run a successful cafe. The pair took over the former Crema Espresso space last month with the goal of bringing the best parts of each of their existing venues together to create a space dedicated to serving the local community. It’s safe to say that The Local Tedder Avenue – a place to come together over good, non-pretentious food, specialty coffee and maybe even a couple of cheeky afternoon wines – is a success in that regard. Main Beach locals have been quick to embrace this light and bright new eatery. The cafe offers a range of different seating areas including street-side spots, a light-filled dining room as well as a quirky garden bar out the back, which showcases a spectacular 8-m mural lovingly created by local artist Tracie Eaton to reflect the street’s unique surrounds, in particular the jacaranda trees.
The menu offers a range of classic cafe fare including all-day breakfast options, homemade muffins and signature sweets. For those keen to get their morning off to a wholesome start, the fresh fruit salad topped with a generous dollop of natural Greek yoghurt, coconut, roasted almonds and walnuts will hit the spot, while those with a sizeable starvation can tuck into the very aptly named The Locals Big Breakfast, which is piled high with all of your morning faves (helloooo double bacon). Meat-free mates can munch their way around the vegan board, loaded with garlic and thyme mushrooms, sauteed spinach, cherry tomatoes, fresh avocado, seeded sourdough, hash browns, hummus and beans. Come lunchtime, diners can flip the menu and stick a fork into a Thai-style salad, burger or Wagyu steak. The Local Tedder Avenue uses Merlo Coffee beans to make its easy-to-sip brew, but there’s also a selection of freshly squeezed juices and smoothies to slurp. Fancy something a little stronger?
