Sugar Creek Smokehouse brings ‘Aus-Tex’ to Eagleby’s Distillery Road Market

The best of Texan barbecue has been given an Aussie twist with a range of signature sauces, rubs and marinades at Sugar Creek Smokehouse. This newcomer specialised in locally sourced meats that have been smoked fresh daily and served up alongside people-pleasers like chilli brisket fries and smoked mac ‘n’ cheese.

If juicy beef brisket, pulled pork and sticky barbecue baby back ribs smoked for hours over a blend of Australian hickory and iron bark wood sounds like your vision of culinary heaven, then grab a stack of napkins add Sugar Creek Smokehouse to your Brisbane drool-worthy dining bucket list. Opened by Zarraffa’s Coffee founder Kenton Campbell last week, this new venture is actually the result of halted plans for Logan food destination Distillery Road Market (DRM). As the COVID-19 lockdowns hit pause on that project, the inevitable downtime led to the development of the new smokehouse. Two repurposed shipping containers have been transformed into the new food joint, housing a rotisserie-style offset smoker that sends plumes of classic smoky scents to the outdoor dining area.

Guests can choose from a selection of burgers such as the Stretched Pig boasting pulled pork, spicy slaw and cheese, or the family secret Sloppy Joe with cheese and pickles, a range of smoked-meat plates including the Mega Meat Plate (which is made for sharing) with brisket, pulled pork, a half rack of smoked ribs, cornbread, spicy slaw and fries, or the Smokehouse’s signature Filthy Fries layered with smoked meat trimmings, brisket gravy and liquid cheddar. You’ll probably work up a thirst making your way through the menu, so grab a tinnie of local craft beer to complete the experience. The DRM precinct now has a delayed opening date of late 2021 – find news and updates here.

Sugar Creek Smokehouse is now open to the public. Head to the Stumble Guide for address details and operating hours.
