The mesmerising aroma of piping-hot woodfired pizza is now filling the air around West Burleigh with the arrival of Stoked – a new casual pizzeria from the team behind longstanding cafe, Nook Espresso. After months of work, the new neighbourhood gem is up and running, slinging pizzas every single day and night of the week.

It’s been a big year for the Nook Espresso team – their OG coffee spot on Burleigh Headland (which first opened in 2008) finally settled into its new, uhh, nook beneath Burleigh Pavilion after operating from a shipping container while ‘The Pav’ was being built. Then, the attention turned to its sibling venue, Nook at Stocklands Burleigh, which recently relocated and expanded into fresh new digs as part of a major overhaul at the shopping centre’s outdoor dining precinct. Just a fortnight later, the team lifted the lid on an exciting new third venture – Stoked Wood Fired Pizza – located right next door to the newly re-opened Nook at Stocklands. It’s a very relaxed and casual affair – while it’s an ideal spot to settle in for a night of pizzas and wine (it’s BYO, yo’) with the crew, you’ll still feel comfortable sneaking through in your tracksuit pants to grab a takeaway, which, let’s be honest, is a common occurrence.

After letting the hand-leavened dough proof for a minimum of 24 hours, the Stoked pizzas are topped with an array of simple-yet-tasty combinations before being fired in the custom-built traditional pizza oven, which the team imported direct from Italy. A simple Margherita kicks off the menu, which also features a range of vegetarian-friendly combinations like mushroom, olives and sage with truffle oil and fetta. There’s also the three-ingredient New Yorker (pepperoni, cheese, parsley – is there anything better?) as well as more elaborate combinations like the roast-duck pizza with pumpkin, baby spinach, pine nuts, chilli and truffle oil. Back it up with a banana, Nutella and strawberry dessert pizza to finish – or a cheeky tiramisu.

Stoked Wood Fired Pizzeria is now open! Head to our Stumble Guide for its opening hours and contact details.
