St Barts and Next Door Espresso open a coffee and homewares destination in Burleigh

For the past few months, curious eyes have been peeking at the luminous, all-white double-storey premises coming to life on Junction Road in Burleigh's industrial precinct. The giant portholes on the front of the building have certainly created intrigue from those taking the Bermuda Street route to the M1 – and now, the suspense has lifted. It's a new showroom-meets-cafe concept from renowned homewares, art and interior-design brand St Barts, which opens its doors today, Monday September 16.

The details
Surrounded by towering Livistona palms, the striking new purpose-built haven brings together a curated collection of offerings – good food, great coffee, luxury homewares, one-of-a-kind artefacts, fashion, furniture, fine art and interior design. St Barts founders Jasmine Smith and Leanne Pearce have collaborated with local hospitality duo Kim Piper and Simon Thompson, owners of Tweed Heads cafe Next Door Espresso, to bring the precinct’s Mediterranean-inspired courtyard cafe to life. The doors to Next Door Espresso Burleigh open at 6:00 am (Monday to Saturday) to capture the coffee crowd with caffeine and eats amongst the olive trees, while St Barts’ palatial dual-level showroom opens from 9:00 am.

Next Door Espresso
The sleek, coastal aesthetic of the St Barts premises has created a dreamy canvas for Kim and Simon’s second venue – Next Door Espresso Burleigh. Those familiar with their flagship cafe in Tweed can expect the same down-to-earth vibe and quality, organic coffee from Byron Bay’s Moonshine, alongside a concise menu of simple and vibrant all-day eats. While it’s off the beaten track, the cafe’s Mediterranean-inspired architecture, lush greenery and timber furnishings (all hand picked by St Barts designers) certainly don’t make you feel like you’re sitting in the heart of a bustling industrial precinct. The food offering covers breakfast, brunch and lunch bites – treat yourself to an organic croissant with butter and jam, a thick slice of gluten-free banana bread with local honey, or enjoy the dairy-free and vegan spiced bircher with coconut yoghurt, seasonal fruits and a macadamia-nut crumble. There’s also too-pretty-to-eat acai bowls, a healthy green salad, brunch bruschetta, as well as simple all-veggie or ham-and-cheese toasties using organic sourdough from Tweed’s The Bread Social. Teas, cold-pressed juices and a colourful collection of coffee alternatives (like beetroot and turmeric lattes) round out the drinks selection.

St Barts
After your coffees and bites, take some time to explore the curated collections within St Barts’ awe-inspiring dual-level showroom. Brimming with luxury homewares, fashion, furniture, artefacts and fine art, the space is a wonderland for everyone from homeware lovers, design appreciators and those searching for gifts big and small, right through to people wanting a complete end-to-end interior design service. Occupying part of the second level is a retail space for St Barts’ sister company FINEPRINT co, displaying limited-edition contemporary prints and affordable wall art, as well as museum-quality photographic reproductions. The unveiling of the Burleigh Heads cafe-and-showroom concept marks an exciting new chapter for the St Barts brand, having opened its flagship store at The Brickworks in Southport back in 2010 followed by a second in Brisbane’s James Street in 2011.
